English News, Lintasutara.com – Heavy rainfall hits Sangihe Islands since Thursday has caused landslides and floods.
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), on Friday morning, released the interim report on the areas affected.
The report shows landslides cut routes connecting sub-districts in the Sangihe Islands Regency, including the Tahuna-Manganitu roads, either through the main road or the Tawali area.
A landslide also hit a house of a family in Lesa Village, Tahuna Timur Sub-District. Two landslide points were also reportedly hit the Tahuna-Naha road. There were no casualties, but the landslide made the access to North Tabukan Sub-district impassable.
Heavy rains with strong winds caused flooding in several areas of Sangihe. Four administrative villages in Tahuna city were affected; Apengsembeka, Sawangbendar, Soataloara 2, and Tona 2.
One more Sub-District, Laine, was also affected, with no casualties reported.
Sangihe Regent Jabes Ezar Gaghana appealed to the Sangihe community to stay alert to the extreme weather that hit the region.
“I plead to all Sangihe people to stay alert to the current weather conditions,” said Jabes. And for those who are affected by landslides and floods, Jabes urged them to “evacuate” as Government has provided the evacuation shelter.
He said he had ordered the Social Service Agency (Dinsos) and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to provide the aids.
